Respite Care
Respite care is when we provide temporary relief to primary caregivers, allowing them to get some rest, or focus on their other responsibilities. Providing care for a loved one can put a large mental, physical and emotional strain on a person, so it is important to be able to have a break and focus on looking after themselves from time to time. It is incredibly important for their well-being.
Respite care services can take many forms, including:
- In-home respite care: Respite care provided within the individual’s home.
- Day respite care services: Supervised care during daytime hours.
- Overnight respite care: Support during nighttime to ensure safety and comfort.
Any of these services can be modified and personalised to suit the exact needs of both the primary caregiver and the client.
Respite care is all about giving the primary caregivers the opportunity to rest and recharge. No one can keep stretching themselves indefinitely, and they have their own lives to keep on top of as well. Having a break can reduce the risk of burnout, while the care recipient will have the security of professional private respite care.

FAQs
How much does respite care cost?
It’s very difficult to give a definitive answer to this question, unfortunately, as it depends on a multitude of factors, like the level of care required, and the number of hours etc. It may be an hourly rate, it may be a weekly rate. Primary caregivers may be eligible for financial assistance to contribute towards respite care – we can talk you through what you need to claim when you get in touch.
Who might need respite care?
Respite care is usually afforded to family caregivers that provide support to elderly relatives that need some extra care. The caregivers have their own lives that they need to focus on at times, and so respite care gives them breaks so that they can look after themselves – they will not be able to offer good care if they are suffering from burnout.
How long does respite care last?
It all depends on the needs of the individual receiving care and the caregiver. It may be that care is required for a few hours a day every now and then, or it might be for a block of time so that the caregiver can have a longer break.
